In Germany 1971 Degree: Graduierter Ingenieur in electrical engineering (Ingenieurakademie Beuth Berlin). 1977 Degree: Diplom-Ingenieur in electrical engineering (Technische Universität Berlin). In Great Britain 1998 Degree: BSc (Hons) (Psychology) (The Open University). Language competence German: Native German with university education and professional work experience in Germany. Regular visits to Germany. English: Resident for 19 years in Great Britain with professional work experience and British university education. English has become my 'second mother tongue'. Experience as freelance translator. Associate member of the Institute of Linguists. Work History In Germany 1977 - 1982 Employed by Siemens AG in Erlangen as professional engineer in the 'International Service Division' in the field of CNC machine tools, manufacturing automation and process automation. In Great Britain 1982 - 1987 Employed by Siemens UK as professional engineer in the service department. Later transferred to Scotland in charge of service in the Scottish Region. Became involved in translating of company-internal material. Part-time freelance translating. 1987 - 2000 Hotel manager. Part time freelance translating. Associate member of the Institute of Linguists (AIL) since May 2000. Sept. 2000 - Present Full-time freelance translator, working for various agencies and direct customers. |
